On May 12, 2014, the Government of Canada announced that the design Landscape of Loss, Memory and Survival had been selected for the National Holocaust Monument. The design was the work of Team Lord of Toronto — which consists of Lord Cultural Resources, Studio Daniel Libeskind, Claude Cormier + Associés, Edward Burtynsky and Doris Bergen.
The NCC, as the steward of the Capital, provided the required land use and design approvals, and managed the design phase. It is also overseeing the construction of the monument. Afterwards, the NCC will be responsible for long-term maintenance, preservation and management of the monument.
Construction of the Monument is ongoing. The goal is to have the monument completed in 2017.
