Michael Poliwoda is the current vice-president, Philanthropy, with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. With more than 20 years’ experience, primarily in areas of organizational capacity building, he has expertise in high-level fundraising, sponsorship, marketing and communications, and strategic planning for fundraising campaigns and events. He has also held the position of director of resource development for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, director of investor engagement for United Way / Centraide Ottawa, and managed project s.t.e.p. / projet r.é.p.a., which built two residential treatment facilities for Ottawa youth struggling with addictions. He has also worked as a fundraising consultant with international firms managing capital and annual, multi-million-dollar campaigns. He coaches soccer in Aylmer, Quebec. He completed his mini-MBA at McGill University, Desautels Faculty of Management; studied English Literature at the University of Toronto and Fundraising / Volunteer Management at George Brown College in Toronto. Michael Poliwoda also has a certificate in Capital Campaigns from the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, Madison Institute, Wisconsin School of Business.
